Breaking Free from Invisible Barriers: Dr. Lise Janelle's Approach to Transformation

Lauri Wakefield Episode 19

In the most recent episode of the Inspired Living for Women podcast, host Lauri Wakefield is joined by Dr. Lise Janelle—breakthrough coach, former championship rower, and soon-to-be co-author with Jack Canfield—for a powerful conversation about the hidden beliefs that shape our lives. Dr. Lise shares her deeply personal journey through loss, reinvention, and courageous leaps—like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro—to illustrate how even high-achieving women can feel stuck when their subconscious mind is out of alignment with their goals. She introduces her Heart Freedom Method, reveals how she helps clients create rapid breakthroughs, and reflects on why she walked away from a thriving chiropractic practice to pursue her deeper calling: helping others reconnect with their heart and transform their lives from the inside out.

Topics Discussed:

  • The role of the subconscious mind in shaping outcomes and self-sabotage
  • How challenges can be reframed as growth catalysts
  • Dr. Lise’s Heart Freedom Method for releasing emotional blocks
  • Her upcoming book collaboration with Jack Canfield

💡 Key Takeaways:

  • Subconscious beliefs can quietly block your deepest desires—even if you’re taking all the “right” steps.
  • Alignment between the heart, the conscious mind, and the subconscious is essential for lasting success.
  • Your “why” must be bigger than the challenge—purpose fuels resilience.
  • Gratitude in the face of adversity builds inner strength and self-worth.

Noteworthy Quotes:

“Until you make the subconscious conscious, it will direct your life—and you will call it fate.”

“The natural state of a human being is to be successful and happy. You just have to remove the blocks.”

“When you face a challenge, take a deep breath and ask, ‘Since I’m worthy of love, how can I use this to my advantage?’”

🎙️ Inspired Living for Women Podcast – Episode 19
Guest: Dr. Lise Janelle
Host: Lauri Wakefield

Lauri Wakefield [00:00:41]:
Hi. Welcome to the Inspired Living for Women podcast. Thanks for joining me today. I'm your host, Lauri Wakefield, and my guest is Dr. Lise Janelle. Would you like to say hi?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:00:50]:
Hello, everyone. Nice to be here today.

Lauri Wakefield [00:00:53]:
Do you prefer I call you Dr. Lise or Dr. Janelle?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:00:57]:
Dr. Lise is fine.

Lauri Wakefield [00:01:00]:
Great. Dr. Lise is a breakthrough coach who helps high achievers break through invisible barriers and subconscious blocks to create extraordinary, purpose-driven lives. She blends conscious and subconscious transformation to deliver rapid, measurable breakthroughs. Before we dive into what you're doing now, let’s talk about your background. I saw you were a championship rower and part of the first women’s ice canoeing team. Can you share more?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:02:02]:
I grew up in a small French-speaking town in Quebec. We didn’t have much money, but I always had big dreams. I collected stamps to imagine traveling the world, and now I’ve been to 38 or 39 countries. In 1979, I moved to Toronto to study chiropractic and became very successful. I was also a Canadian rowing champion, won at Henley, and even medaled at the World Master Games in Australia. But despite all of that, I still felt empty.

Lauri Wakefield [00:03:23]:
Like something was missing?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:03:24]:
Exactly. Then in 1988, my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. A week later, my 21-year-old brother died in a car accident, and shortly after, my eight-year relationship ended. To survive it all, I went on a quest to understand what makes life truly fulfilling. I found two powerful mentors—one taught me about the subconscious mind, the other about gratitude. In 1989, I wrote a life purpose statement: to help transform the lives of a million people by reconnecting them with their heart. Eventually, I realized I was being called to become a coach, even though it was scary.

Lauri Wakefield [00:05:29]:
Right.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:05:29]:
As a chiropractor, I removed interference from the nervous system to let the body heal. As a coach, I remove subconscious blocks so people can unfold the life they love. I’ve worked with Jack Canfield, and we’re even co-authoring a book together.

Lauri Wakefield [00:06:19]:
That’s amazing. I remember reading Chicken Soup for the Soul decades ago.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:06:36]:
Over 100 million copies sold.

Lauri Wakefield [00:06:40]:
You also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Tell us about that.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:06:49]:
Yes. The physical part wasn’t as hard as the lack of oxygen. We climbed in five days instead of six, which meant less time to acclimate. The night before the summit, you don’t really sleep. It’s cold, windy, and dark. One of our group members started vomiting and had to turn back. There’s always a risk of cerebral or pulmonary edema. But the guides were amazing—they started dancing and singing, which lifted our spirits.

Lauri Wakefield [00:08:29]:
That must have helped.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:08:30]:
Absolutely. At one point, I was zigzagging like I was drunk. I questioned why I was even doing it. My guide told me to think of the shower two days from now, but what really kept me going was imagining inspiring others with my story. I realized two big things: the power of having a guide who's been there before, and the power of having a big enough “why.”

Lauri Wakefield [00:11:37]:
Was Kilimanjaro something you had dreamed about for a while?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:11:48]:
I jump on opportunities when they feel right. I read a book at 16 that changed my life—In the Name of All My People by Martin Gray. His philosophy was: when you see an opportunity, seize it. That’s what led me to become a chiropractor and later climb Kilimanjaro.

Lauri Wakefield [00:14:21]:
So part of your motivation was also personal?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:14:43]:
Yes. I like to test my limits. As a competitive rower, you’re trained to push past what feels possible. That’s the same mindset I bring to my coaching. It takes courage to live an amazing life. Courage comes from the heart.

Lauri Wakefield [00:16:34]:
Out of everyone you’ve worked with, is there a story that really stands out?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:16:57]:
So many. A woman I helped 20 years ago couldn’t get pregnant. After working with me, she had twin daughters. Recently, she returned after surviving brain cancer. We released the subconscious beliefs holding her back. She said she felt taller—she’s 5'1"! Another client quadrupled her income from $30k to $158k by clearing beliefs around money and worth. One woman who always attracted unhealthy partners is now getting married after healing the belief that love was dangerous.

Even an Olympic skier who ranked 31st jumped to 3rd after just two sessions. She had been unconsciously holding back due to childhood programming around making others feel bad.

Lauri Wakefield [00:21:59]:
Wow.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:22:56]:
Many people do all the right things and still don’t get the results they want. That’s often because of subconscious resistance. I developed the Heart Freedom Method—it takes just 10–15 minutes and brings immediate relief and clarity. When your heart, conscious, and subconscious mind are aligned, results come much faster.

Lauri Wakefield [00:24:29]:
You also offer one-on-one coaching, digital products, and workshops?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:24:51]:
Yes, I love working with elite performers and also reaching people through online programs. I even have a certification program for coaches who want to use my method.

Lauri Wakefield [00:25:46]:
Let’s talk about the book you’re co-authoring with Jack Canfield.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:26:17]:
Jack started Chicken Soup for the Soul with Mark Victor Hansen. After many rejections, a publisher finally said yes—and the rest is history. Jack invited me to co-author a book after seeing me present my method at the Transformational Leadership Council. He calls it the missing link in 50 years of transformational work.

Lauri Wakefield [00:28:16]:
You're planning to publish in early 2025?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:28:24]:
Yes, possibly sooner. My dream is that this book helps people—and especially children—know they are worthy of love, no matter their challenges.

Lauri Wakefield [00:30:19]:
That’s powerful. Jack Canfield’s role is more in editing the stories?

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:30:27]:
Yes, I wrote the content, and he’s editing the stories using his experience.

Lauri Wakefield [00:30:54]:
Before we wrap, I want to share a couple of testimonials. Marci Shimoff said, “I felt deep shifts in my body right away, and I feel more free.” Jack Canfield said, “Dr. Lise is magical. She unblocked some of my own self-limiting beliefs.”

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:32:16]:
Here’s something I’d love to leave your listeners with: When facing a challenge, take a deep breath and ask, “Since I’m worthy of love, how can I use this to my advantage?” Challenges shape us. Like a butterfly struggling to emerge, we need resistance to grow strong. Gratitude for those challenges increases your self-worth, which reflects back into your life.

Lauri Wakefield [00:33:54]:
Beautiful. You offer so many ways to support people, from coaching to online programs. I’ll link to your websites in the show notes. Thanks again for joining me today, Dr. Lise.

Dr. Lise Janelle [00:34:51]:
Thank you. Bye, everyone.
